The fn1 protein is a glycoprotein component of the extracellular matrix and can be membrane-bound through integrin receptors. It functions in cell adhesion, migration, and embryonic morphogenesis. During gastrulation, fn1 fibrils provide a substrate for mesodermal cell migration and are involved in convergent extension movements. The protein is also implicated in the formation of the notochord and somites, contributing to the establishment of bilateral symmetry. [-]
