The ccnb3 protein is a regulatory cyclin that forms a complex with cyclin-dependent kinase 1 to function as a maturation-promoting factor. It plays a role in meiotic cell cycle progression by promoting entry into metaphase and is involved in spindle assembly during oocyte maturation. The protein accumulates during oogenesis, is stored in the cytoplasm of mature eggs, and its degradation is required for the completion of meiosis following fertilization. Its expression is specific to the ovary and developing oocytes within the female germline. During interphase, it localizes to the cytoplasm, and upon nuclear envelope breakdown, it associates with condensing chromosomes and spindles. [-]
