XB-LINE-984

Line Name: Xla.Tg(Xtr.col2a1:RTTA;TRE:Cre;cryga:GFP3)Buchz

Summary
Synonym: pDPcol2.3rtTA-TRECre-HS4
Species: Xenopus laevis
Background Strain: Xla.Outbred
Paternal Line:
Maternal Line:
Description: This inducer line contains the chondrocyte-specific regulatory elements from the 5' region and first intron of the Xenopus tropicalis col2a1 gene (Kerney et al. 2010). These activate the tetracycline/doxycycline conditional transcription factor rtTA, which in the presence of doxycycline (Dox), induces expression of Cre-recombinase (Cre) via the tetracycline/ doxycycline response element (TRE) promoter in our transgenic line. The spatial expression of rtTA is restricted to cartilage by col2a1 regulatory elements. Temporal control of TRE activation by rtTA depends on the addition of Dox to the rearing medium.
Phenotype Description: Used with transgenic reporter frogs to inducibly label cartilage. Constitutive GFP expression in eye from crystallin:GFP cassette. No other visible phenotype in the absence of a cross with a transgenic frog harboring a reporter transgene
