Transgenic animals-CUSTOM orders now being accepted

Hello All,
Hope everyone's year is proceeding along well. I am writing to remind people that we now have over 15 transgenic Xenopus laevis and 4 Xenopus tropicalis lines for sale. Almost all of these lines have reached sexual maturity or are nearing sexual maturity. These include:

TALENs

Hello All,
There is growing discussion that we need to implement TALENs in Xenopus and I need the community's input. So please help me out here. I wanted to ask how many of you are interested in TALENs. If the NXR offered a service to inject TALENs for your lab and grow the frogs would you use this service?

Here are the questions that I would appreciate some answers so I know how to allocate some resources in the NXR in the near future. I think TALENs are a great idea and my own lab is prepping them. Please respond to the following if you are interested. Even if you are not please respond and let me know why you made such a decision as this will help me out.

1. Are you interested in obtaining a mutant frog?
2. Laevis or tropicalis?
3. What exactly do you want from us? The F0s so you grow the F1/F2 nulls or for us to generate F1 heterozygotes and send those to you? Keep in mind that F0 may have different mutations and we can intercross them or cross them out to wt and generate "pure" hets.
4. Do you understand the timeline of such an experiment and how long it will take?
5. If you said trops do you have trops already in the lab and if not did you consider this? Would you have to purchase new housing system or would you just buy frogs to use for a short time?

Any other comments questions would be greatly appreciated.

Bioinformatics workshop

Dear Xenopus Community,
Just a polite reminder that registration for the 2013 Bioinformatics Workshop is now open. Space is limited to 25 people so register as soon as possible. The course will run from Sunday to Sunday May 12 -19, with arrival and dinner on the 12th and departure after lunch on the 19th. Cost is $1900 for single
$1550 for double
These costs include room and board for the entire period.

One of the portions of this course will be to have you bring your data and analyze it throughout the course with the help of the teachers. Leonid Peshkin, Bob Freeman and Mike Gilchrist will be lecturing and providing insight. They are an excellent group and very helpful and knowledgeable. There are many facets to the workshop, but if you are doing RNASeq analysis in your lab then this workshop is essential. Even if you have no knowledge of how to write script this workshop will teach you how. If you have any questions feel free to contact me; and if you would like to talk to students from last year do get in touch and I can provide you with names to contact them and ask them what they thought.

A last note- you can register and pay later that is an option.

Following the discussion from the 14th International Xenopus Conference the committee established for producing a guideline of naming Xenopus gene was formed and has completed its work. Attached are the guidelines for naming genes in Xenopus and we ask that everyone read the guidelines carefully and abide by them in naming new genes.
