The cenpc gene encodes a constitutive centromere-associated network protein which is a structural component of the kinetochore. It localizes to centromeres throughout the cell cycle and is required for proper chromosome segregation during mitosis and meiosis by facilitating the assembly of the kinetochore complex and recruiting other proteins such as cenpa.
