Name: Dr. Artur Llobet
Position: Group Leader
Research Description:
The Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology group has a long history in the use of toxins, particularly neurotoxins, to study cell and tissue processes related to regulated secretion (neurotransmitters, hormones), as well as in the molecular bases of neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease. The team builds on its experience in both of these areas to clarify the possible causes of neuroinflammatory demyelinating diseases, such as multiple sclerosis (MS).
Xenopus tadpoles offer a unique platform to investigate the function of the nervous system in vivo. Our group also study the nervous system in living Xenopus larvae in normal rearing conditions and after injury.
