Name: Bradley J Stith
Position: Professor
Research Description:
We examine the role of calcium and phospholipase C in Xenopus oocyte maturation and fertilization. Recent publicaitons include a 2008 Journal of Lipid Research article that, for the first time, surveys lipid signaling through numerous pathways (suggesting roles for autotaxin and phospholipase D in fertilization). Lipid binding and activation of tyrosine kinases, acrosome reaction and calcium release at fertilization, use of oocytes as model systems for insulin and metformin action and nongenomic action of progesterone are other areas explored in our publications.
