Name: Simon M Hughes
Position: Professor of Developmental Cell Biology
Research Description:
We work on zebrafish (mainly), Xenopus, chick and mouse muscle development. We have interest in training, aging, and muscle diseases that impact on people. We want to understand the patterning, growth, adaptation and repair of skeletal muscle. We have identified molecular pathways regulating the patterning of muscle tissue in the embryo and influencing muscle adaptation in the adult. Recent work has revealed new steps in myogenesis, which we are pursuing by in vivo imaging in zebrafish and molecular genetics in amniotes: we aim to understand the cell biology of development in vivo.
