California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM)

Description

CIRM, California’s Stem Cell Agency, was created by the voters of California in 2004 when they overwhelmingly passed Proposition 71, which authorized $3 billion in funding for stem cell research in California. The agency funds stem cell research at institutions and companies throughout California (as well as institutions and companies outside of the state that conduct a portion of their research in California) with the goal of accelerating treatments to patients with unmet medical needs. Here is the text of Proposition 71. In 2020, California voters approved to continue funding California’s Stem Cell Agency through the passage of Proposition 14: The California Stem Cell Research, Treatments, and Cures Initiative of 2020.
