High magnification image of respiratory mucosa from a ventrocaudal area of the nasal cavity just caudal to the vomeronasal organ. The respiratory epithelium contains numerous ciliated cells and mucous cells. Basal cells located at the base of the epithelium give rise to new respiratory cells.
